Madeira in November is a fair south-coast month on the published climate normal, and a weak plan if the week only works on a high trail. The IPMA climate normal for Funchal, station 522 at the observatory, 58 m, period 1991–2020, version 1.0 of 2024, gives November a mean daily temperature of 19.9°C, a mean daily maximum of 22.8°C, a mean daily minimum of 17.0°C, and 7.3 days with at least 1 mm of rain. That station is the city. It is not the north coast and it is not the peaks.
The 2026–2029 tourism animation calendar from the regional tourism directorate, read on 24 October 2026, has no November line. The next dated item after October is the decorative lighting in Funchal, from 1 December 2026. This page is the hub for that month. The wider year, still without a second Madeira station sheet, stays in weather by month, winter weather, and Funchal by season. Live readings stay on the weather page.
The Funchal November normal
The figures below are copied from that Funchal sheet. The sheet's own legend calls TT the mean of the daily mean temperature, TX the mean daily maximum, TN the mean daily minimum, and P ≥ 1 mm the mean number of days with precipitation of at least 1 mm. The same PDF says the 1991–2020 series mixes observed data with values modelled by WRF, and that the numbers can change when quality control is updated. They are a normal. They are not the forecast for November 2026.
| Measure | November |
|---|---|
| Mean daily temperature | 19.9°C |
| Mean daily maximum | 22.8°C |
| Mean daily minimum | 17.0°C |
| Mean precipitation | 80.3 mm |
| Days with at least 1 mm | 7.3 |
| Days with at least 10 mm | 2.3 |
| Days with a maximum of 25°C or more | 3.0 |
| Nights with a minimum of 20°C or more | 1.4 |
The same November column records a highest daily maximum of 29.5°C on 20 November 2006, a lowest daily minimum of 11.2°C on 13 November 1996, and a highest daily rainfall of 158.6 mm on 26 November 2010. The mean month is 80.3 mm. One day inside the normal period was almost twice that.
So "is Madeira worth visiting in November?" has a city answer and a mountain answer. In Funchal the normal is mild, with rain on a minority of days and a real chance of a heavy day. The sheet does not publish a hiking temperature, a sunshine total, or a sea temperature. Do not borrow those from a blog.
North coast, south coast, peaks
The 1991–2020 climate-sheet index lists two stations for the archipelago: Funchal observatory and Porto Santo. It does not list a north-coast Madeira station, and it does not list a peak station. This guide does not invent a November normal for Santana, Porto Moniz, or Pico do Arieiro. Porto Santo is the other island, not the north coast of Madeira.
On the day you are there, the split is live, not climatic. The weather page groups IPMA station readings into south coast, north coast, and mountains, and it says in its own words that IPMA does not publish a north-coast town forecast or a separate mountain forecast. Use that page, and the IPMA Funchal hourly view, for the morning. A wet Funchal reading does not tell you the north coast, and a dry Funchal reading does not tell you the ridge.
What is actually on in November 2026
Two official calendars. They are not the same list.
The regional tourism calendar has no November event. On the 2026 page of the animation calendar, Festival da Natureza is 6 to 11 October. The next block is Festas de Natal e Fim de Ano: general lighting of the decorative illuminations in Funchal from 1 December 2026 to 10 January 2027, and Christmas exhibitions in the baixa of Funchal over the same span. The sheet says the calendar is subject to updates. Visit Madeira's events page points at that annual calendar. Our Christmas lights guide stays with the 1 December start. November is the month before the lights.
Magusto is described as a tradition, not as a 2026 programme. Visit Madeira's traditions page says Magusto is celebrated every year on All Saints' Day, 1 November, with Madeiran chestnuts roasted and shared. That page does not name a 2026 venue, a start time, or a ticket. The animation calendar does not add one. Treat 1 November as the date the tourism board gives the tradition. Do not treat a blog's chestnut-festival timetable as this year's official programme.
Funchal's own culture calendar does list November 2026. These are the events on Funchal Cultura's November 2026 month page, each checked against its event page on 20 October 2026. A concert or race that is not on this page, and not on the tourism calendar, is left out.
- Residência e Exposição "Musas de Plástico", Galeria Impulso, Largo do Corpo Santo. The event page dates it from 17 August 2026 at 08:00 to 8 December 2026 at 17:00, so the run covers November. It does not print which days inside that span the gallery is open.
- O Rei Vai Nu, Teatro Municipal Baltazar Dias, Avenida Arriaga. The page's structured dates run from 28 October 2026 at 11:00 to 6 November 2026 at 11:00. The programme text on the same page lists school sessions on 3, 4 and 5 November at 11:00 and 15:00, a school session on 6 November at 11:00, and a public session on 6 November at 20:00. The 20:00 public session is in the programme text. It is not the structured end time. Also listed, and not in November: 31 October at 18:00.
- Tomé, a short film by André Fournier, 10 November 2026, 19:00 to 20:00, same theatre.
- Noites da Madeira, a homage to Celso Rodrigues, 13 November 2026, same theatre. The page dates the day and does not print a start hour.
- Alice no país do… Teatro, same theatre, from 27 November 2026 at 20:00 to 5 December 2026 at 20:00. The page does not say which evenings inside that span have a performance.
When it rains
Decide on the morning. The normal says rain is likely on some November days in Funchal. It does not say which ones.
- Read south, north, and the peaks separately on the weather page, then the Funchal hourly forecast.
- If a walk is the plan, read the status column on the IFCN classified-trails page. The copy opened on 20 October 2026 was last updated 2 October 2026. That is a living list, not a November forecast. Our walks pages follow the same list. After rain, the turn-back rules are in levada safety.
- A classified trail still needs a booking. The IFCN trails page says the fee and reservation model has been in force since 1 January 2026. How it works is in the SIMplifica guide, which cites the IFCN fee FAQ and the SIMplifica service.
- If a warning is up, PROCIV Madeira covers 112, the SRPC app, and location sharing. The emergency-number page is SRPC, 112.
A wet day in town does not need a ridge:
- The Funchal cable car and the Monte toboggan have published prices and hours on the operators' pages, collected in that guide. Do not assume a wet day keeps the fair-weather clock. Read the operator on the day.
- Visit Madeira's traditions page describes a morning at the Mercado dos Lavradores. It does not print November opening hours, so this guide does not either.
- The Funchal Cultura dates above, when the day matches.
- A table that does not depend on the sky: where to eat in Funchal and the Madeira food guide. Neither lists wet-weather opening hours.
The sea is not the observatory temperature. Which whales and dolphins the published research places around Madeira in November is in the whale-watching guide. That page is habitat suitability, not a booking calendar, and it says plainly that an October sea bulletin is not a November normal. Whether a boat leaves is the operator's call that morning.
Wind at the airport is a separate check from the Funchal rain normal. Use the airport wind guide and ANA Madeira Airport. This climate sheet does not publish a November wind figure.
November checklist
Each line is a check, not a prediction.
- City climate, then today's forecast. The Funchal normal is above. The morning is the weather page.
- North, south, and peaks as three readings. The 1991–2020 sheet index has no north-coast November normal. Use the live groups on the weather page.
- Trail status, then a booking if the path is classified. IFCN status, then SIMplifica.
- Warnings. PROCIV Madeira.
- What is dated for November 2026. No headline on the tourism calendar. The city list is Funchal Cultura, November 2026.
- Lights start 1 December 2026. Christmas lights.
- A paid stay in Funchal is also a tax question. The rate in force, who does not pay, and a proposed change are in the tourist-tax guide. The regulation that guide cites is Regulamento n.º 764/2024.
Pack for the number you can actually cite: a Funchal mean minimum of 17.0°C on the IPMA sheet, plus a waterproof shell, because 7.3 days in the normal month reach at least 1 mm. The sheet does not give a peak temperature. If the walk is above town, add a warmer layer and shoes with grip, and still read the forecast that morning.
